Town of Halton Hills is undertaking a Youth Needs Study (YNS) to ensure that the Town’s provision and management of recreation programs, facilities and services continue to meet the needs of youth between the ages of 13 and 19.
The Youth Needs Study focuses on five key areas:
- Connecting services – collaboration between the Town and a diversity of youth and youth-serving agencies;
- Youth engagement – involvement and engagement of youth in advising, planning, delivery, communication, and evaluation of the provision of services and facilities;
- Access – ensuring services are inclusive, sensitive and accessible to all youth, including youth of diverse cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, youth with disabilities, newcomers, youth of varied sexual orientation, and youth that might be otherwise marginalized;
- Dedicated youth space – both indoor and outdoor; and
- Education and training – to support and foster youth friendly training and educational opportunities.
To ensure that YNS is truly reflective of the needs of youth in Halton Hills, the Town wants to hear from residents of all ages. “YNS is an opportunity for all youth to have a say in what they would like to see and do in our community now and into the future,” says Mayor Bonnette. “I strongly encourage parents and service providers to participate and share their thoughts too.” There are a variety of ways for the community to participate including:
- Facebook (search for YNS after logging in to your account) Polls posted regularly through the end of September 2011 to solicit input from youth in Halton Hills. Poll data collected will be analyzed along with all other input and will help inform the Study’s recommendations. Youth that ‘like’ the YNS page will be automatically entered into a draw to win an iPod.
# Email An opportunity to provide input at any point throughout the Study process. All submissions are forwarded to the consulting team for consideration. youth@haltonhills.ca.
- Two (2) public open houses An opportunity for the public to provide feedback on YNS recommendations. November 16, 2011 in Georgetown, and November 17, 2011, in Acton
For more information on the consultation process please visit the Town’s website.
Watch for the YOUth Crew – a group of community youth dedicated to increasing awareness of YNS within the community. The YOUth Crew will be visiting special events within the community over the duration of the study.
