On Monday, August 30th Recreation and Parks youth volunteers, family and friends joined Mayor Rick Bonnette, Members of Council, Terry Alyman, Director of Recreation and Parks, and staff to celebrate the contributions youth volunteers have made to Town programs, events, initiatives, and committees over the past year.
“A volunteer’s gift of time not only adds value to community programs and events, it also impacts the lives of children and our community as a whole. Through mentorship and leadership volunteers become a role model and friend, while helping the community grow through positive experiences,” shared Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Many volunteers have learned that volunteering is a rewarding and valuable experience that helps build self confidence, discover strengths and is an experience which will be with them for life.”
In the past year 145 youth volunteers have committed over 7150 hours of their time to Town services. Their commitment and contributions were recognized by staff via presentation of certificates and words of thanks from Mayor Bonnette and staff. Special Service Awards were presented to volunteers who were chosen based on nominations submitted by staff. These outstanding volunteers went above and beyond their volunteer roles to ensure a positive experience for all.
